You do not need to become a different person to become a brilliant teacher.
There is an enormous amount to learn in the first years of teaching. In the middle of it all, it can sometimes feel as though becoming a good teacher means learning to impersonate somebody else’s idea of one.
This session starts from a different position. How you speak, what you notice, the boundaries you set, the interests you share and the routines you repeat all help shape how your classroom feels.
This is not about becoming louder, funnier or more performative. It is about identifying the professional version of yourself that pupils can trust, then using that identity to create a classroom in which you and the children feel comfortable, connected and able to belong.
Children deserve a classroom they love being part of. Teachers deserve to love being part of it too.

What will we explore?
The feel of the room
Explore the Steady, Known and Ours framework and how routines, expectations and small shared traditions shape the atmosphere children experience every day.
Relationships without losing yourself
Explore how warmth, consistency and clear boundaries help pupils feel known, while allowing you to remain recognisably yourself.
Teaching with personality, not performance
Explore how your humour, calmness, curiosity, interests and natural ways of communicating can become professional strengths without turning teaching into a performance.
What will the session be like?
I’ll lead most of the session using real classroom stories, practical examples, carefully chosen research and a filmed routine demonstration. There will also be simple live polls, private reflection, optional paired conversation and time for questions.
There will be no compulsory public sharing, writing on massive sugar paper or cold calling you into sharing your soul with the room at 4.45pm on a Tuesday. You can participate quietly.
About Jordan
Hello, I’m Jordan, or Mr Firth if you’ve come across my videos online.
I’ve spent more than eleven years in primary education as a class teacher, year group leader and mentor to trainees and ECTs. I’m also an education creator and, once upon a time, a BBC Bitesize presenter.
One thing I am, in my humble opinion, pretty good at, is building classrooms that children, teaching assistants and I enjoy being part of. My classrooms have had clear routines, high expectations and firm boundaries. They also had guitars, World Cup sweepstakes, shared songs, recurring jokes and, on one occasion, a fish tank and some stick insects.
Those things were never the method. They were signs that the room had developed a recognisable identity using things already present in me and the children.
I am not going to teach you how to recreate my classroom. This session is designed to help you recognise what is already in you, use it professionally and build a classroom that feels genuinely yours.
